{"id":172,"date":"2013-12-24T13:37:49","date_gmt":"2013-12-24T21:37:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davidavery.net\/apropos\/?p=172"},"modified":"2017-12-22T02:05:28","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T02:05:28","slug":"too-close-to-the-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/davidavery.net\/apropos\/?p=172","title":{"rendered":"Too Close to the Sun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Too Close to the Sun, <\/em>my most recent etching, is now available and has been selected from over 3000 prints to be shown along with work from 28 other artists at the IPCNY\u2019s <em>New Prints 2014\/Winter<\/em> exhibition from January 22<sup>nd<\/sup> to March 12<sup>th<\/sup>, 2014. It was also accepted into the <em>2014 Delta National Small Prints Exhibition<\/em> from January 30<sup>th<\/sup> to February 28<sup>th<\/sup>, 2014.<\/p>\n<p><em>Too Close to the Sun<\/em> is based on the 16<sup>th<\/sup> century engraving of the fall of Icarus by Hendrick Goltzius from his series, <em>The Four Disgracers<\/em> that depicted the results of blind arrogance and ignorance in the face of the inexorable forces of the gods and nature. <em>Safe, Clean, Cheap\u2014Phaethon in the 21<sup>st<\/sup> Century<\/em>, which can be seen on my website, was my previous attempt in this vein.
